On my way to the theatre 🎭

As someone who has been on stage for the most part of my life, you can either watch me dancing or singing and rarely acting. You can seldom find me sitting in the audience. I’m not trying to blow my own trumpet, but I desire and am passionate to be on stage to show what I can be and can do.

Recently, I got cast in a short film and I’d like to share my experience about it.

Getting the part

In June and July, I was occupied with the shoot of “Domicile”. This is the first time I got the chance to act in a short film, since 2016 where I had performed in a play. My audition was quite disastrous. To begin with, I messed up my lines. Turns out there was some issue with the microphone and they couldn’t hear me. The solution to which I realized was my mistake as I had switched off permission to use microphones for certain apps and Zoom was one of them. Haha, crazy me!

I never imagined I would get the part. To my surprise, I got selected! Seeing my passion, the production house was immensely kind to grant me the role of “Bhagya.”

The experience of a virtual shoot was something out of the box and unexpected! Due to the current situation, I didn’t want to take a risk by going out.

Among the five of us as actors, two have prior experience in theatre and the rest of us are getting started. From what I learned from the director and co-actors are —

  • Get into character
  • Understand the other characters apart from yours
  • Emote and empathize
  • Give appropriate expressions for the situation
  • Try not to sound caricaturish
  • Understand the script and story
  • Know your lines/dialogues

These are among the most important points that I learned among the many. Not to forget, the director guided me very well and I’d love to work with her in the future.

Domicile along with eight other short films was a big success! The films were premiered on BookMyShow on 11th August from 8–9 pm and I’m glad I could be a part of it.

Taking part in future projects

Being on stage for so long, I never realized I wanted to act as well. The shoot for this film is over, although I wish it didn’t. I miss rehearsals. Nevertheless, I want to continue acquiring knowledge on theatre and acting. One of my long time goal is to perform in Broadway and I wish for this to come true shortly.
