A brief article to help you with mental health
This is not my story. But everyone’s story on this planet. Even the President of India or Jeff Bezos could be going through hard times leading to stress, anxiety, etc. This can be handled in small amounts. We all get stressed and sad sometimes. But that doesn’t mean we are depressed. Although, the moment this stress or anxiety gets out of hand, it grows into something bigger. Our minds are constructed in a manner such that, we can deal with general issues. The moment we can’t handle those issues, they turn out to be our ugliest archenemy.
If being mentally healthy was a trend like social media sites, then people would’ve been doing better off than they are.
Quite a few of my friends were having a hard time overcoming their mental issues. They didn’t know whom to turn to. They had suicidal tendencies, shut themselves down from the outer world, and so on. This can happen to anyone at any point in time. It’s okay. There is nothing to be embarrassed about or ashamed of. Talking about your problems will definitely help.
“Life doesn’t make any sense without interdependence. We need each other and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.” — Erik Erikson
I’ve gone through tough times too which I couldn’t overcome within a day. It took time, but eventually, I got over it. I understand that a few issues could get out of hand and you might not be able to handle it on your own. Yes, you’ll need help. There is no shame in seeing a therapist.
But before you reach that stage where problems get out of hand, here are a few things you could try out to improve your mental health, stay mentally healthy and super strong in the times ahead.
- Meditate — Try to meditate every day. At least for 5–10 minutes.
- Talk — Speak up! Talk to your loved ones and close friends. If that isn’t helping, then make an appointment with a therapist.
- Indulge in your interests/hobbies — Be it music, reading books, theatre, dance, or any other field that you’re interested in. Be in touch with it as often as possible.
- Learn a new skill — You could learn a new language, play an instrument, or stitch?
- Go on a trip — Preferably with your loved ones or your close friends.
- Jot down a list of things that you’re grateful for.
- Love yourself — There’s nothing greater than this.
Start fresh from wherever you had left off. Take your time to begin again. Every day is a chance for you to get better and recognize yourself in the place you’ve wanted to be in for so long.
“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”
-Sigmund Freud
